The Search for Outstanding Teachers for 2012 is on. With the support of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), Metrobank Foundation, Inc. is once again looking for the country's sought-after Filipino educators. The theme for this year - "Raising Educational Excellence" aims to boost the quality of education by inspiring teachers to seek excellence in what they do. Educators found to have displayed remarkable dedication to their work and commitment to the student's development will have a chance to be recognized and awarded with P350,000 cash (part of which is for the faculty development program of his/ her school) plus a medal and a trophy. Finalists and semi-finalists will also get P20,000 and P10,000 with certificate of recognition respectively.



Contest Requirements:

  • Open to all teachers in the elementary, secondary, and higher education levels in both public and private schools throughout the country, with full-time appointment and with full-load
  • Must be actively teaching in the country for the last 10 years (inclusive of leaves not exceeding three years, provided the nominee is not on leave, i.e., actually teaching at the time of nomination)
  • With valid PRC license. For college teachers, you should have have the pertinent license for tertiary courses where a license is required in the exercise of the profession. (e.g. Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, etc.)
  • Average performance ratings for the last five (5) years should at least be "Very Satisfactory" with no rating below "Satisfactory"

Contest Mechanics:
  1. Get a two-page Basic Information Sheet (BIS) available in all Metrobank branches, DepEd regional and division offices, and CHED regional offices nationwide. You can also download it thru mbfoundation.org.ph
  2. Three (3) Categories
    • Elementary - primary (kinder to grade III) and intermediate (grade IV to grade VII)
    • Secondary
    • Higher Education
  3. Entry Guidelines
    • Kindergarten teachers, provided that the kindergarten level is part of an integrated curriculum or part of an elementary school system
    • Technical-vocational teachers in the high school and college levels. Teachers teaching tech-voc courses in high school may be considered in the secondary category, while those teaching 4-year technology courses in college may join the higher education category
    • Deans, vice-deans, directors, chairpersons of departments, subject area coordinators, assistant principals, teacher-librarians, research or extension coordinators, head teachers, teachers-in-charge, and guidance counselors, provided they carry a teaching load for at least 50% of the total load required by the school for the school year
    • College/university teachers with research or extension assignments and other administrative duties, provided they carry an actual teaching load of at least 50% of the total load required by the school for the school year
    • College/university teachers teaching with full load in the graduate school level during the nomination period
  4. Submit the Basic Information Sheet at the Metrobank Foundation Secretariat or at the nearest Metrobank branch in your area. No additional documents required
  5. Nomination Guidelines
    • Elementary competition:
      • Schools are entitled to two (2) nominees. One (1) each from both primary (Kinder to Grade III) and intermediate levels (Grade IV to Grade VI)
    • Secondary and higher education competitions:
      • Schools are entitled to one (1) nominee, respectively
      • Satellite campuses of private colleges and universities and state universities and colleges (SUCs), which are not autonomous, are now entitled to nominate per competition
  6. Judging Criteria
    • Personal qualities and character
    • Instructional competence and teaching effectiveness
    • Professional and community involvement
  7. Past regional finalists and national finalists of the search, who meet the basic eligibility requirements and have shown sustained good moral standing in the community, are deemed automatic provincial finalists

Contest Period: Deadline for submission of Basic Information Sheet until February 6, 2012
  • Deadline for submission of Nomination Form of Eligible Nominees - February 29, 2012
  • Deadline for submission of Supporting Documents of Provincial Finalists - April 23, 2012
  • Semi-Final Judging of Regional Finalists - July 4-6, 2012
  • Final Judging of National Finalists - July 18-20, 2012
  • Recognition Program (required for winners) - August 27 - Sept 7, 2012

Contest Prize:
  • Winners/awardees will EACH receive:
    • P350,000 cash (part of which is for the faculty development program of his/ her school)
    • A medal and a trophy. For the school, a plaque of recognition
  • Finalists will EACH receive:
    • P20,000 + certificate of recognition
  • Semi-finalists will EACH receive:
    • P10,000 + certificate of recognition
