Alab: The Independent Musician Rising Awards

Calling all independent musicians! Let your voice be heard and start submitting your entries in the Alab: The Independent Musician Rising Awards. This latest competition from Carat Philippines aims to encourage budding artists, particularly in the genres of rock, pop, and hiphop/rnb, to show your talent and be an advocate of Original Pinoy Music. All you have to do is record a clip of your performance at a gig, a music video, or a home-recorded performance. Upload it upon registration via the contest website. You can only submit one (1) track regardless of genre. Alab will only consider the last track submitted. Wait for your entry to be approved and uploaded on the contest site gallery then encourage your friends to vote for your video. The selected Top artist per genre will be toured on different touchpoints, and groomed for one whole month. The Grand Finals winner will be awarded with P300,000 CASH while the Top artist per genre will each receive P20,000. Aside from the money, all winners will each get a Talent contract and management + Recording label and production + Artist grooming and exposure + Spot in Fusion 2017.

  • All locally or globally unsigned Filipino musicians regardless of age. Entrants who are below 18 years old must present a written consent from a parent or guardian

KIX "R U Tough Enough?" Challenge 2016

Missed your chance in last year's competition? If you think you are physically and mentally ready now, go on and enroll in this year's Kix "R U Tough Enough?" Challenge. In less than 200 words, tell why you are the toughest person in the country. The 50 shortlisted participants will meet with the promoters for a closed door casting sessions wherein you will be interviewed and undergo some physical tests. Pass this round and be included in the 20 participants who will be judged and shortlisted again for a panel interview. From there, only 10 will be selected to compete in a series of obstacle course challenges which will be held for one (1) day only. The last man standing will be awarded with P250,000 CASH and will be hailed as the new "Toughest Pinoy".

The judges will select fifty (50) participants for closed door casting sessions wherein you will be interviewed by the promoter and tested on your physical fitness by doing some physical tests (e.g. planking and pushups exercises). Upon completion of the closed door casting sessions, twenty (20) participants will be judged and shortlisted again for a panel interview consisting of (3) Representatives from the Huddle Room Media, Inc. From there, ten (10) will be selected to be finalists of the competition
  5. The 10 Finalists will compete in obstacle course events which will be held for one (1) day upon instruction of the promoter
  6. Participation is FREE of charge
  7. One (1) valid ID card account can enroll into the contest once only
  8. A DTI representative will be invited to witness the judging, closed door casting sessions and the selection of winner
  9. The winner shall be responsible for any and all taxes related to the prize

Filipino-Chinese Culture Photography Competition

Calling all amateur and professional photographers. Submission of entries for the Filipino-Chinese Culture Photography Competition is now open. Take a photo capturing the rich combination of the life, culture, and tradition of the Filipino-Chinese Community. Show how they are one connected group. Choose which category you belong to: Professional or Amateur. Log on to the contest FB page, fill out the entry form and upload your photo. Make sure it has a "Photo Title" and Photo Caption". The caption must indicate the place where the image was taken and must have a short description not more than 50 words of what the photo is about. You can join in one (1) category only with a maximum of two (2) submitted entries. Prizes at stake are P70,000, P40,000 and P20,000 CASH + Plaque for the Professional Category while P40,000, P20,000 and P15,000 CASH Prizes + Plaque await the winners in the Amateur Category. Asia Young Designer Award

If you didn't get lucky in the previous competition, your design might be recognized in this year's Asia Young Designer Award. Focusing on the theme "Be Bold. Be Free. Be You.", unleash your creativity and impress the judges with your ideas as you explore, propel and exceed the boundaries of design. Choose which category you belong to: Interior Design or Architecture. Work on your presentation boards and create a unique, brave and well-though-out design that carries commercial value and at the same time cautious of the welfare of its surrounding community. Download the entry kit online, attach it to your entry before submitting via mail. The Gold winners in both categories will each receive P50,000 CASH + 6 months internship at LOR CALMA & PARTNER (for Interior Design) and AIDEA, Inc. (for Architecture) + Once-in-a-lifetime learning program overseas + Opportunity to represent the Philippines in the Regional AYDA 2016 Competition with a USD1,000 cash prize. Tinapay Natin Pinoy Bread Baking Competition

Do you have a special bread recipe with a fascinating story you wanted to tell? Share it in the Tinapay Natin Pinoy Bread Baking Competition. Form a team of 2 members and enter one (1) regional bread and one (1) modern bread. Fill out the official entry form online, upload the photos of the breads and answer the bread story questions. Entries with the most compelling bread story and recipes will be chosen to participate in the Elimination round. There, you will be assigned ovens and work stations at the designated venue. You will be given five (5) hours to prepare your breads and a maximum of two (2) minutes to pitch your bread story. If you get shortlisted, you will compete in the Grand Finals wherein you will need to bake one (1) more bread, either a regional or a modern bread, in addition to the two breads entered in the Eliminations. Only one (1) team will take home the Grand Prize of P50,000 cash + trophy + medal. Aside from that, one of your bread entries will be sold and distributed at MCB outlets for a probationary period of forty-five (45) days. Max's Corner Bakery will also name your highest scoring bread as Pinoy Bread of the Year. Moreover, your team will get to choose a public school from your region that will be granted a feeding program funded by a part of the sales generated by the new #TinapayNatin. How cool is that!       • You may modify the individual quantities of your ingredient, but are not allowed to add new items to the list you submitted.       • You will be assigned ovens and work stations at the venue. However, you will need to bring your own baking tools and plating materials
      • You will be given five (5) hours to prepare your breads. Afterwards, you will be given a maximum of two (2) minutes to pitch your bread story
      • One (1) winning team from each elimination round will be chosen to compete in the Grand Finals
      • Grand finalists will be provided Pilmico flour and your indicated ingredients beforehand to practice making your bread
    • Grand Finals
      • You may modify the quantities of your ingredients and submit improved recipes ten (10) days after the elimination rounds
      • In addition to the two breads entered in the eliminations, you will need to bake one (1) more bread: either a regional or a modern bread
      • Preparation rules from the eliminations rounds will still apply
      • You will be given six (6) hours to prepare all three breads based on the production grid. You will be given a total of two (2) minutes to pitch your entries to the judges
  2. After the competition, Pilmico and MCB shall reserve the ownership and the rights to use the recipes of all bread entries that competed in the grand finals
  3. The winning recipe will be subject to modification by the MCB Technical Research & Development team for selling purposes. You bread story, meanwhile, will be published via in-store collaterals and media features

"Salamat Po!" Nationwide Letter Writing Project Year 4

Calling all students in Elementary and Junior & Senior High! Submission of entries for the "Salamat Po!" Nationwide Letter Writing Project Year 4 is now open. Spearheaded by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the project aims to encourage the youth to express their gratitude, show love and appreciation and uplift the morale of other people while bringing back the old fashion way of letter writing. What you need to do is write a thank you message to anyone  you want. It could be in Filipino or English. Don't forget to follow the required format along with the other important details then send it through the Post Office or any accredited Postal Stations. If the recipient lives abroad, you may use the Airmail service, published rates applied. For every letter sent via ordinary mail service, you will be entitled to one (1) raffle ticket while those sent abroad will receive two (2) raffle tickets. Together with your teacher, fill up and sign the raffle stub then drop it at the designated drop boxes located at participating and accredited post offices and postal stations. One (1) student will take home P50,000 in the Grand Raffle. The teacher and the school will also receive the same prize amount as the student. On the other hand, P10,000 awaits the Semi-Grand Draw winner as well as the school and teacher who encouraged him to write.

All basic ingredients, table wares and cook wares will be provided, but you can also bring additional ingredients you will need in cooking your chosen dish. You will also be allowed to have an assistant to help you during the preparation and clean-up time. Cook the best Korean food of your life in one (1) whole hour for a chance to win a Trip and Culinary Tour to Korea, P30,000 CASH, Gift Set and opportunity to represent our country in Korea and win the Grand Prize of US$10,000.       • Once the competition time is over, you may not be able to go back to your cooking station
      • The cooking area should be clean at all times. Failure to clean-up after the cooking competition will give you a 1-point deduction
  4. Competition Proper
    • You should make a single-menu Korean food (ex: Bibimbap, Japchae, Bulgogi, Tteokbokki) either in a Traditional or Fusion (Contemporary) style
    • The organizer will provide only the basic ingredients, table wares, and cook wares. A list will be provided upon confirmation of your entry
      • The organizer is not responsible in providing the ingredients, cookwares, or materials that are not on the list provided
      • You may bring any additional ingredient, sauce, cookware, or dishware they deem necessary for the preparation and cooking of your chosen dish
      • If you did not prepare or bring an ingredient that is instrumental to your dish, the organizer will not be held responsible with its provision
    • You must prepare two (2) servings of a dish. (1 plate to be shared by the judges, 1 for display)
    • Cooking and preparation of dish for presentation must be made and done within one (1) hour. If you continue cooking after the allotted time, you will get points deducted from your total score. (Note: 1 point deduction per minute spent in excess of the allotted time)
      • You will be given an extra 30 minutes for the preparation of ingredients and materials before the competition. Your assistant can help during this period
      • After cooking, the food should be ready for presentation. You will be led to the judging area where you will be given a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 5 minutes to talk about your dish
      • After cooking, your assistant will be given 30 minutes to clean-up your work station
    • Cooking time for the latecomers will not be extended

2016 Pinoy K-pop Star

Missed your chance in last year's competition? The long wait is over! Showcase your exceptional talent in performing like your favorite K-pop icon and submit your entries for the 2016 Pinoy K-pop Star. There are two (2) available categories to join to: Vocal and Performance Category. For the Vocal Category, you may opt to perform solo, duo or with a group. You can also choose to have back-up dancers if you like, especially if you are singing an upbeat dance song. Record yourself singing a live K-pop song and upload it on YouTube with the title, "2016 PINOY K-POP STAR - Singing Category Entry – NAME". For the Performance Category, form a group of as much members (or less) as the group you are copying. Pre-record your song using instrumental with backing vocals and lip-sync to your own voices while performing the dance. Upload your video on YouTube with the title, "2016 PINOY K-POP STAR - Performance Category Entry – NAME". Send the video link, along with the application requirements via email. The Grand Finalists in both categories will each win a trip to Changwon, South Korea to represent the Philippines in the 1st Round of Semi-Finals of the 2016 K-pop World Festival.       • You can have fewer members but you cannot have more members than that of the original artist whose song you will perform
      • You may choose to have back-up dancers or not. However, should you decide to have back-up dancers, the number of back-up dancers per performer/team will only be limited to (2) two members. It is recommended to have back-up dancers especially if you are singing upbeat dance songs

      • Team must be composed of as much members (or less) as the group you are copying.
      • The original or the current line-up should be followed regarding groups that have re-structured their member line-up
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Log on to koreanculture.ph and download the application form
  2. Entry Guidelines
    • Vocal Category
      • Duly accomplished application form
      • High resolution creative shot of yourself/your group
      • Copy of valid ID or passport
      • Song choice must be relatively new, preferably released in 2015-2016. It must be one full song track. No remixes allowed
      • You must sing live using instrumental audio without backing vocals
      • Recorded video file of live performance
      • The video doesn’t have a time limit however, the total time of performance must be at least three (3) minutes but not more than five (5) minutes
      • Video must be taken with a front, center view. The whole route of the choreography should be seen in the video
      • Video must include a tight, full shot of you
      • Video must have good lighting, enough to see you
      • Video must not be recorded with different angles or with special effects
      • The submitted video must be the same song that you will perform during the competition. Minor changes to the song can be made as additional intro or putting in a dance break in the song
      • Use of props will be allowed as long as it will not cause any delay in the program and any harm to the performance of other groups
    • Performance Category

  • Judging Criteria

    • Vocal Category
      • 60% Vocal Power - Vocal quality, technique, and ability
      • 20% Expression, Pronunciation - How well the singer expresses the emotion of the song and how well he/she/they pronounce the Korean lyrics
      • 20% Stage Charisma - Costume, manner on the stage, how well he/she/they engage the audience
    • Performance Category
      • 40% Choreography (Composition, Unity) - How well is the choreography of the dance of the members and how synchronized they are in dancing
      • 30% Technique - How well the group sings and dances at the same time
      • 30% Stage Charisma - Costume, manner on the stage, how well he/she/they engage the audience


  • In case a member cannot perform in the competition, the group must find a substitute member
  • A panel of judges will consist of five (5) persons chosen by the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines
  • Judges' decision is final and irrevocable
  • Wait for the announcement of finalists through koreanculture.ph and facebook.com/KoreanCulturalCenterPH and email
  • Former winners that were sent to Korea to represnt the Philippines are no longer allowed to join the competition
