Outstanding OFW Children

In recognition for the exceptional children of our modern day heroes, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is now accepting entries for this year's Search for Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children. This annual campaign aims to promote value of education, culture of excellence and nationalistic pride among the children of Overseas Filipinos or Expat Pinoys. The four (4) categories are Ibang Klaseng Talino Award, Ibang Klaseng Community Leader, Ibang Klaseng Entrepreneur, and Ibang Klaseng Artist/Athlete. Participants can join one (1) category where he/she is most qualified. To join, accomplish all the necessary requirements and answer one essay question, "What distinctive attribute do you have that you believe will help you initiate changes in your community or in the country that will benefit other Overseas Filipino families?". Ten (10) awardees will receive cash prize worth P50,000 EACH, credited to a BPInoy Savings Account.



Contest Requirements:
  • Son/daughter of an Overseas Filipino Worker (with a current work contract abroad) and meets the following qualifications:
    • High school graduate and is currently enrolled in a four-year college course
    • With no failing grade. Applicant with academic excellence must comply with the grade requirement
    • Not more than 21 years old
    • Applicants or his parents/immediate family members must have a deposit account with BPI, BPI Direct, or BPI Family Savings Bank
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Log on to mybpimag.com/index and fill out the needed information at the Application Form tab
  2. Four Categories
    • Ibang Klaseng Talino Award
    • Ibang Klaseng Community Leader
      • Must be an officer or active member of a duly recognized or accredited community-based organization
    • Ibang Klaseng Entrepreneur
      • Must be a registered owner (sole proprietor, partnership or corporation) of any business that is SEC or DTI registered
    • Ibang Klaseng Artist/Athlete
      • Must have received an award or high recognition from a duly-recognized, widely known award giving body on the arts and sports
  3. Entry Guidelines
    • Fully accomplished application form
    • Certified true copy of grades for school year 2010-2011 showing the general weighted average (GWA) that is certified true and correct by the school administrator or college dean
    • Proof of enrollment from SY 2011 -2012
    • Certificate of Good Moral Character from school
    • Birth Certificates, certified true copy
    • Proof of involvement or membership in non-academic activities, community/civic works, school clubs/organizations and civic organizations. Membership covers from 2010-2011 only.
    • Work contract or proof of overseas employment of the OFW parent
    • Form certification that applicant, parent/immediate family member has a BPI, BPI Direct, or BPI Family Savings Bank deposit account.
    • Requirements/proof specific to the category one wishes to enter
    • Essay
      • "What distinctive attribute do you have that you believe will help you initiate changes in your community or in the country that will benefit other Overseas Filipino families?" (Ano ang iyong angking katangian na pinaniniwalaan mong makapagsisimula ng pagbabago sa komunidad o sa bayan na makatutulong sa mga pamilya ng Overseas Filipinos?)
        • May be written in Filipino or English
        • Typewritten and double-spaced
        • Must contain at least 1,000 words but not more than 1,500 words
  4. Judging Criteria
    • Ibang Klaseng Talino Award
      • 70% Academic Excellence (GWA of at least 85% for SY 2010-2011)
      • 20% Essay
      • 10% Non-academic (sports, community, etc)
    • Other Categories
      • 30% Academic Excellence (GWA of at least 80% for SY 2010-2011)
      • 50% Excellence in Special Category
      • 20% Essay
  5. Applicant can join one (1) category where he/she is most qualified

Contest Period: June 1 - August 15, 2011
  • All applications must be submitted to the Program Secretariat on or before August 15, 2011

Contest Prize:
