Radio Playwriting Competition
If you enjoy listening to radio dramas and dream of writing one, here is your chance. The British Council together with BBC world has recently launched an International Radio Playwriting Competition 2011. To join, you must create an original 60 minute radio play with up to 6 central characters. Two winners will each receive £2500 sterling and a trip to London to see the play being recorded and to attend a prize-giving evening. Contest is open worldwide so you better make that play stand out.Contest Requirements:
- Open to anyone who is over the age of 16 as of March 31, 2011 who is not normally a resident of the UK. This may include anyone living/working in the UK on a temporary basis (up to 12 months) at the time of entering the competition. Professional and previously published writers are eligible to enter, but this is not a requirement of entry.
- Enter individually or as part of a group
- Write a radio play of approximately 60 minutes’ length on any subject of your choice
- Categories
- English as a first language
- English as a second language
- Entry Guidelines
- Adaptations of novels are not eligible
- Must not have been professionally produced in any medium
- Must not be entered in any competition during the course of this contest
- Minimum of 50 pages of A4 paper
- Maximum of 75 pages NOTE: A rough guide is a minute per page; read and time your play before you send it
- Maximum of six central characters (up to 3 small “doubling” characters who don’t have more than a few lines each)
- Must be accompanied by a short synopsis which outlines the complete story of the play (no more than 400 words)
- Must be written substantially or entirely in English
- One entry per person
