College students can now turn their social development/advocacy into reality with Unilab's Ideas Positive competition. Submit a project plan that addresses a social need for a specific community and Unilab will award 3 groups seed money for implementation. In line with the contest, Unilab will be holding a FREE Ideas Positive Workshop on September 23-24, 2010 for currently enrolled college students. This workshop will help students improve on their social marketing, leadership, and project management skills.

Contest Requirements:
  • College students in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Pampanga
  • A group of at least 5 and maximum of 7 members, including the plan presenters and implementers
  • Group composition can be interdisciplinary but must be limited to two different university programs or organizations
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Create a plan that addresses a health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity for a community of your choice
  2. Project Categories (you may have a different category)
    • Hygiene and Sanitation
    • Nutrition
    • Disease prevention and intervention
    • Environment Care and Protection
  3. Log on to www.ideaspositive.com and compete registration form
  4. Upload your 6-page project plan and your 3-minute video encapsulating the written plan
  5. Plan Guidelines
    • Must be sustainable (not one-time)
    • Immediately actionable
    • Must be implementable with a Php100,000 seed money
    • Must be implemented within a six-month period between October 2010 and May 2011
    • Project beneficiary of each entry should be a local community within Metro Manila, CAMANAVA, CALABARZON or GMA
  6. Project Plan Guidelines
    • Font: Arial, size 11, black
    • Page specifications: A4-size, 1" margin on all sides
    • Page count: maximum of 6 pages, 1.5 spacing
    • A title page should serve as cover of the 6-page plan containing the entry´s project title and group name
    • The appendices (containing the Creatives, Timetable and Budget Breakdown) are excluded in the 6-page count
    • Compress and send as a PDF file, not exceeding 3 MB. Download a PDF converter
    • The project name and group name should not give any indication of the entrant´s school, e.g. colors or symbols associated with it
  7. Video Guidelines
    • The video filename should bear (1) group´s name and (2) project title − in that specific order (e.g. Agents_of_Change − Bakuna_para_sa_Kinabukasan).
    • Video format should be .flv. Download FLV converter
    • Video length must not exceed 3 minutes; file size must not exceed 3MB; screen resolution at 320x240
    • Should third party video clips be used, sources should be acknowledged at the end of the video (failure to acknowledge third party videos will automatically disqualify the team´s entry).
    • The video should answer the following questions:
      • What is the health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity in your chosen community?
      • How can your group address the health and wellness need, problem, or opportunity in that community with seed money of Php100,000?
    • Submitted videos will be uploaded on the website within 24 hours of submission, after the website regulators have reviewed their adherence to the set parameters
  8. Judging Criteria
    • 70% Panel of Judges
      • Analysis and understanding of community need, problem, opportunity
      • Innovativeness and creativity of ideas
      • Harnessing Bayanihan spirit in the community
      • Feasibility
    • 30% Online Votes

  • Grand Prize
    • P100,000 seed money for the implementation of their community health project
    • Ideas Positive Winners´ trophy for the school
