Do you HeArt Makati?

Friday, June 25, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

Makati celebrated independence day with a I HeArt Makati photo contests that aims to remind today’s urbanites of Makati business district’s rich history. The first contest focused on how Makati looked today and the second contest focused on vintage photos of Makati. It was definitely a blast from the past looking at the old photos. I'm glad I took part on the on-the-spot photo contest even if I didn't get to win

The Quad, The first Cineplex in the Philippines now Ayala Center

Remember this? I distinctly remember going to Quad's amusement area back when I was a kid.

Ayala Ave, late 1960's

It wasn't easy taking good pictures of Makati on such as hot day. I had a difficult time looking of a good subject and a good story for my entry. Truth is I don't like taking landscape photos that much. I ended up submitting these 3 photos

Cheese Cafe 5845

Friday, June 25, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

I just love cheese! I actually pity those people who are lactose intolerant simply because they are missing out on one of the greatest food invention. For those of us blessed to be spared from this deficiency, we got to try out some of the dishes that were made by Eden and MIHCA when they took on and succeeded in creating a staggering 5845 cheese dishes last year. It actually broke the current record of 4668 of India. To give you a taste of this culinary feat, they are launching Cafe 5845, the worlds first cheese cafe. On top of that, they will also be publishing a book on all 5845 cheese recipes.

Press and bloggers were invited to Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) for a culinary treat to celebrate and recognize the success of the partnership of MIHCA & Eden in breaking the Guinness World Record of most cheese-infused dishes and launching of Cafe 5845. The cheese cafe will soon be opened at SM Mall of Asia where it will run for 1 month and serve different dishes every day.

Cheese as a filling - good
Cheese as a dip - better!

Heard of cream puffs? Well how about cheese puffs?

Great for both breakfast and dessert. Don't you agree?

We were also served a 4-course dinner by top chefs of MIHCA. All the dishes have won awards in culinary competitions.

Congratulations for pulling off a collosal task of creating 5845 cheese dishes in one day!

A+ Grade for A-Team

Friday, June 11, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

Action movies today are becoming more and more fun to watch. Take A-Team for example. It seamlessly combines humor and action in which everyone, regardless of gender or age, will appreciate. It has heart-pumping action scenes, hilarious dialogues and a little love romance. Combine all that and you get one heck of a movie. I never did get a chance to watch the TV series but after watching this movie, I'm inclined to do so.

A-Team had a good storyline. It actually starts with a big bang as it introduced the main characters. Liam Neeson who played Hannibal was the leader of the team. I can't seem to get rid of the image of Darkman when I see his face or hear his voice. He definitely bought to film a bit of that Darkman personality as he portrayed Hannibal which I like.

Things you will like in this film:
  • Unique action moves and scenes like no other
  • Production did was not stingy on the budget (you could see it in the film)
  • Great cinematography and visualization
  • A lot of action scenes
  • Great movie for family and lovers
What you may not like:
  • Some scenes are quite exaggerated/unrealistic although still very cool

All in all, watching A-Team was well worth watching. You definitely will have fun no matter who you bring along with you.

WINNERS UPDATE:

Reading through all your stories makes it look like I have it easy. You guys are one tough bunch of Pinoys! Your stories reflect how we Filipinos are truly are hard-working individuals. But aside from being known for working hard, you show one common thing with each other and that is the drive to make a change for someone or something. It may be your family, your dream, your aspirations. Whatever the goal, all this creates a positive effect that lingers through our hearts and minds for both receiver and giver. My salute to all tough Pinoys!

It wasn't easy choosing the winners. Here are my top 3 picks in no particular order.

Jameela Malicdem - I envy the road you took at such a young age. If I could just turn back the hands of time, I would probably be more active in being involved in different organizations that made a change to myself and to others.

May Ann Saturno - Your work is literally a back breaking job! I can just imagine how strained your eyes and stiff your muscles must be at the end of every shift. On the bright side, it is a great feeling knowing you have made a positive difference somebody's life

Ferdinand Angeles - Micro-entrepreneurs is the solution to alleviating poverty. I admire you for being an instigator of entrepreneurship to our fellow countrymen who have little or no resources at all. The dangers that go with the work seems to be enveloped by your determination of helping others.

Thank you for all your entries. For the winners, please wait for an email on how to claim your prizes. Prizes will be released on August 15
