Flash Fiction - a very short story that ranges from 100 to 1000 words, and something that can be written or read in one sitting. Think you can come up with a good story that revolves around Philippine culture and history? Then join the 1st Flash Fiction Scriptwriting Contest. Submit your stories to Win CASH prizes of P10k, P7k and P5k.




Contest Requirements:
  • Open to Filipino citizens of all ages
Contest Mechanics:
  1. The entry must be good for a 5-minute story (average of 8 to 10 pages) which can be funded for a possible production in the future. All stories must explore one or a combination of the following ideas:
    • Celebration of Filipino freedom from colonization
    • Recognition of the Filipino's cultural diversity
    • Promotion of the Philippine cultural heritage, its traditions and way of life
  2. Entrants may submit a maximum of three (3) entries for the contest, but each entry shall contain different themes/ideas as specified for this contest. Entries may be in English or Filipino. However, entrants writing in Filipino must be ready to submit an English translation of the work when requested or when the need arises.
  3. Adaptations of existing material (e.g., flash fiction by other authors) are eligible. In this case, the entrant must submit along with his or her entry the written consent of the author of the existing work to have his or her work be adapted for contest entry. The consent should include a clear and categorical statement that the ACPI and UNESCO shall be exempt from liability in the event that the adaptation is found to infringe on the intellectual property rights of the author, and must be duly notarized
  4. Entrants must submit five (5) copies in this format
    • 8.5" x 11" bond paper
    • One-inch margin on all sides
    • Font type: Courier, size 12
    • Cover page indicating the title and pseudonym of the writer
    • Paged in the upper right hand corner (except the cover page)
  5. Entrants must also submit a soft copy of their work in PDP format on a CD. The entrant's real name and address must NOT appear on any of the pages of the entry. When asked for a name in the entry form or elsewhere, the entrant must indicate a pseudonym. The entrant's real name, address, contact information (mobile phone, landline, email address), and pseudonym must be sealed in a separate small letter envelope that is properly labeled with the script title and the writer's pseudonym.
  6. All submissions must have a fully accomplished entry form that may be downloaded from www.animationcouncil.org. Entrants must submit all hard and soft copies of their entry along with the official entry form, letter envelope indicating the entrant's real name and other information, and their resume in a 9" x 12" envelope.
  7. Entries may be delivered personally to the secretariat or sent in by mail or courier but must be received on or before the deadline. Envelope(s) must be properly labeled as "Flash fiction scriptwriting contest," and addressed to the ACPI secretariat: 9th floor, The Palisades Condominium, 107 Perea St., Legaspi Village, Makati City. The deadline for submission of entries is 12 noon of 15 May 2009.
  8. Judging Criteria:
    • Originality of concept/story
    • Creative execution of concept (ability to translate the concept/story into script)
    • Adherence to the theme
    • Overall impact
