2016 Global Taste of Korea
Didn't made the cut last year? The 2016 Global Taste of Korea gives you another chance to show your love in cooking Korean cuisine. Download the application form online and submit it along with a copy of your valid ID/passport and recipe of the dish via email or in person. Additional points will be given to those who will submit a video and photo link of yourself while cooking the Korean dish. Only thirty (30) participants will be accepted on a first come first served basis, so submit your entries as soon as possible. At the competition date, all cooks will be grouped into batches of 10. Each batch will have their own cooking schedule. All basic ingredients, table wares and cook wares will be provided, but you can also bring additional ingredients you will need in cooking your chosen dish. You will also be allowed to have an assistant to help you during the preparation and clean-up time. Cook the best Korean food of your life in one (1) whole hour for a chance to win a Trip and Culinary Tour to Korea, P30,000 CASH, Gift Set and opportunity to represent our country in Korea and win the Grand Prize of US$10,000. The Second and Third Place winners will also receive trophies and gift set each along with cash prizes worth P20,000 and P10,000 respectively.
Contest Requirements:
- Open to all cooks, cooking school students, and the general public who have an interest in Korean food, 18 years old and above
- Must be a natural born resident and local citizen
- You and your parents should have never had Korean citizenship and at least one part of the parents should not be Korean
- You must not have been raised in a Korean household
- Korean adoptees who were raised in non-Korean households can also join
- Should be able to travel to Korea to participate in the culinary tour and finals round
- Should have a valid passport

- Competition Guidelines
- All cooks will be grouped into batches of ten (10)
- Each batch will have their own cooking schedule which will be revealed during the briefing session scheduled prior to the event
- Proper cooking attire like wearing of hair net, tote, and apron must be observed at all times. You will have to provide for your own attire
- You are allowed to have one (1) assistant to help you only during the preparation and cleaning time before and after the cooking competition proper
- Your assistant is only allowed to enter the competition area during the preparation time (30 minutes before the cooking time) and clean-up time (30 minutes after the cooking time). He/she is not allowed to enter the area while the competition is ongoing
- Once the competition time is over, you may not be able to go back to your cooking station
- The cooking area should be clean at all times. Failure to clean-up after the cooking competition will give you a 1-point deduction
- Competition Proper
- You should make a single-menu Korean food (ex: Bibimbap, Japchae, Bulgogi, Tteokbokki) either in a Traditional or Fusion (Contemporary) style
- The organizer will provide only the basic ingredients, table wares, and cook wares. A list will be provided upon confirmation of your entry
- The organizer is not responsible in providing the ingredients, cookwares, or materials that are not on the list provided
- You may bring any additional ingredient, sauce, cookware, or dishware they deem necessary for the preparation and cooking of your chosen dish
- If you did not prepare or bring an ingredient that is instrumental to your dish, the organizer will not be held responsible with its provision
- You must prepare two (2) servings of a dish. (1 plate to be shared by the judges, 1 for display)
- Cooking and preparation of dish for presentation must be made and done within one (1) hour. If you continue cooking after the allotted time, you will get points deducted from your total score. (Note: 1 point deduction per minute spent in excess of the allotted time)
- You will be given an extra 30 minutes for the preparation of ingredients and materials before the competition. Your assistant can help during this period
- After cooking, the food should be ready for presentation. You will be led to the judging area where you will be given a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 5 minutes to talk about your dish
- After cooking, your assistant will be given 30 minutes to clean-up your work station
- Cooking time for the latecomers will not be extended
