Airphil Express P100 Seat Sale

Labels:

Airphil Express is offering a P100 seat sale in celebration of the 1st Anniversary starting now or until seats last. The seat sale is exclusive to A320 Domestic Routes which includes Cebu, Davao, Zamboanga, Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran, Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro and Bacolod. Up to 100,000 seats are available. Travel Period is from June 1 - February 15, 2012. Seat sale includes 15 kilos baggage allowance and does not include government taxes. You may also want to avail a travel insurance for a chance to Win a Trip to Palawan. Just to rant a bit, I booked yesterday's Cebu Pacific Piso seat sale and it turns out that our booking to CDO was actually more expensive than the Airphil Express' current promo (exactly P138.40 to be precise). To think that was Cebu Pacific's Go Lite fare in comparison to Airphil's 15 kilos baggage allowance. Check out the breakdown of the costs below.

Cebu Pacific Piso Fare (Round Trip from Manila to CDO)

  • Base Fare: 202
  • VAT: 74.04
  • YQ: 400
  • Aviation Security Fee: 15
  • Go Lite Fee: (200)
  • Web Admin Fee Fee: 112
  • Total: 603.04
Airphil Express P100 Fare (Round Trip from Manila to CDO)
  • Base Fare: 200
  • Fuel Surcharge: 200
  • Philippine Gov't Tax: 65
  • Total: 465
The only thing I could say right now is... Doh!

Win Buon Giorno GCs

Labels:

Buon Giorno means Good Day in Italian. It's also the name of one of the best Italian restaurants here in Manila. I had my first Buon Giorno dining experience in their first branch at Tagaytay. The second one was at their branch at Pioneer Shaw Boulevard (now closed). And now, I just ate at their newest branch at The Rockwell Business Center beside Medical City along Ortigas. Three times I ate there, three times I went home satisfied.

Want to Win 1 of 5 Buon Giorno P500 GCs? Read on...

I was invited with fellow bloggers to try out the food. We started off with some soup.

Zuppa Di Zucca Arrosto (Pumkin Soup) - P140

The pumpkin soup was a yummy concoction of roasted pumpkins and toasted croutons. It had a little of that grainy texture that I love and the bread only adds more texture to each spoonful. Other bloggers were able to try the Crema De Funghi (Mushroom Soup) - P170, which they said was just as good.

Caramel Apple - P140

I just can't help myself take a sip after another with this caramel apple drink. The sweetness was just right for me as is the price since it's placed in a huge mug.

Margherita Pizza - P265
Mare Pesto (Seafood Pesto Pizza) - P265

Photo shown is half-half

Both pizzas were fantastic. The crust was thin and crisp but not so much that it breaks apart when you hold it. I appreciate the fact that the pizza is overflowing with cheese and ingredients right to the edge. The pesto on the seafood pizza went extremely well with the different seafood bits.

I stared at my plate while we waited for the long line at the buffet table to subside.

Iris and Monch

Seating at my table were Jeff and Jen and their cute son Jed of marriageandbeyond.com. And Iris and Monch of pinayads.com

We finally get in line.

Canneloni Spinaci - P294

The Canneloni is composed of tender bits of chicken and mortadella ham rolled in sheets of spinach pasta then smothered with tomato sauce and cheese. The flavors of the ingredients explodes in your mouth in a pasta symphony. I give this dish a 2 thumbs up.

Pescatore Alla Puttanesca (Spicy Seafood Pasta) - P308

The seafood pasta was only mildly spicy. Squid, clams, mussels, and shrimp covered the pasta along with some olives and herbs to give it that extra punch of flavor.

Pollo E Funghi (Chicken and Mushroom Risotto) - P302

For Those Who Favor Chicken, This Risotto Dish With Mushroom Make For An Extra Special Meal.

The main highlight of the night was the Wagyu beef. It's usually served as a slab of steak with mushroom sauce but for us, it was served as sukiyaki cut. The beef was tender and juicy given the great marbling it had. There were a lot of fats that surrounded the meat which gave it that immense beef flavor. The beef was already seasoned perfectly as it is but smothering a generous amount of the mushroom sauce only made the taste even better.

Molten Chocolate Cake - P168
Apple Strudel - P168
Cheesecake - P170
Chocolate-Pistachio Sans Rival - P207

For deserts, we were served Buon Giorno's best sellers. The best of the lot for me was the apple strudel. It was like a croissant-like pastry filled with apples, sugar and cinnamon served with vanilla ice cream on the side. A good way to end the meal!

Scrapbooking Promo and Contest

Labels:

Make your photo albums stand out with scrapbooking. I'm not talking about the online version of scrapbooking where you simply drag around objects but real live scrapbooking where you are able to physically play around with different elements. Try it at home this summer with your kids, family or even friends. Every P100 worth of any All About Scrapbooking product entitles you to join the Scraptastic Summer where you can Win a Package Trip to Bangkok for 2 and scrapbooking goodies. You can also choose to drop by Robinsons Metroeast on April 3, 2011 for the Scrapaholic’s World event. An entry fee of P200 will give you a scrapbook kit plus workshops, tutorials and contests for everyone of all ages. Winners of the contest will Win gift packs from AAS, Hallmark and BIC, National Bookstore GCs and Imation Flash Drives.

Scrapbooking with the Bloggers

Mel and I along with some bloggers got to try out a scrapbooking workshop by the All About Scrapbooking club. We were asked to design a scrapbook using a kit we were provided.

From the box of photos I brought with me, I finally decided to use the photos from my trip to Vingan.

It was my first time to do a scrapbook and I just remembered I'm no good at arts and crafts even in my school days. Nevertheless, I still pushed through with the challenge hoping that everything will turn out fine. It was a scrapbook after all!

First, I created my door design. I wanted it to have that rugged look so I tore a diagonal strip. I found out that there was a difference with tearing paper towards and away from you. By tearing it towards you, the torn portion leaves a white margin. Tearing it away removes visibility of that margin.

One cool tool the club had was the rounded cutter. You simply place a photo or any piece of paper into the cutter and clamp it. Voila!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/196524_192339014138537_127541877284918_431953_4275251_n.jpg

I was pleased with the scrapbook I made. It was pretty decent given my poor skills on arts and crafts. I tried to use most of the items included in the kit such as the lettering which I used to spell out Vig@n and some stationary which I used to write some notes with. There were still several things included in the kit which I were not able to use.

We, the bloggers, are currently having a mini contest for this. I would appreciate it if you guys vote for the best entry. Yes, not necessarily mine because I want your honest choice. Vote by clicking on "like" on the photo. Remember, you must be a "like" the All About Scrapbooking Facebook Fan page first in order to "like" a photo.

Dairy Queen goes Mango Loco

Labels:

Seek sanctuary from the heat of the summer by heading your way towards the mall nearest you. And if you still can't seem to get rid of that hot feeling it's probably time for a dose of Dairy Queen's Mango Loco products. For a quick fix, try the Mango Cheesecake or Mango Pineapple Blizzard. Before you go home, take home a piece of Dairy Queen's chilling sensation with their Mango Cheesecake Blizzard cake.

https://www.facebook.com/app_full_proxy.php?app=4949752878&v=1&size=o&cksum=de89b4aeef828c4c58f1e1604f8ec84c&src=http%3A%2F%2Fimg156.imageshack.us%2Fimg156%2F8632%2Fdqfb.jpg

Nope. There's nothing wrong with the photo above. The Blizzard is served or handed to you as shown in the photo. In fact if the server does not serve it to you upside down, you get it for FREE! It's actually so thick that you have to eat it with a spoon.

For this summer, DQ is offering a Mango Pineapple and Mango Cheesecake flavor. To be honest, I don't recognize much difference between the two. Most probably because my tongue gets numb from the cold soft-serve vanilla ice cream blended with it. Both of the Blizzards are very good. The price is as follows: P59 for 6oz, P79 for 9oz, P99 for 12oz, and P119 for 16oz.

The Mango Cheesecake Blizzard Cake is a fusion of 100% DQ's signature ice cream blended with a creamy vanilla ice cream with a fudge and cookie crunch center. It's topped with an assortment of icing, mango puree, and cheese and graham cubes. This cake is a great alternative for having just a regular cake especially now that it's summer. I'd give this cake a 8/10 for its balanced flavor. Do be warned that it's quite heavy on the stomach so makes sure you share this with a lot of people. The Mango Cheesecake Blizzard Cake costs P749

Bangus Kabayaki at Yoshinoya

Labels:

Bangus A.K.A. (Also Known As) milkfish A.K.A. my favorite fish. Unagi A.K.A. eel A.K.A. my favorite Japanese food. Bangus Kabayaki A.K.A. bangus with unagi sauce A.K.A. my recent favorite affordable Japanese seafood dish. I'm glad sister company Yoshinoya Philippines and Century Canning Corp. came up with this new Bangus Kabayaki product which uses 2 of my favorite dishes.

The bangus used in the Bangus Kabayaki is grown and farmed inside seawater cages at the farm of Century in Southern Mindanao. Since it is breed on seawater, it will not have that muddy taste. And since the bangus are able to roam around a larger space, they tend to have more meat. Upon harvesting, the bangus are processed and packed within the same day.

Bangus Kabayaki - P140

The Bangus Kabayaki is prepared by lightly breading the bangus fillet that came from Century. It's deep fried, drizzled with that irresistible Kabayaki sauce and served with beansprouts and rice. The dish is outstanding. It looks a lot like those Unagi dishes that you find in restaurants or at groceries in Hong Kong where you place it in the microwave oven to heat. Given the sauce, the taste is a lot similar even with the bangus as the meat. They also make sure you get a large portion of the belly to get that Unagi texture. Make sure you be careful of the belly part though. They weren't able to remove the bone of the fin attached to the skin of the bangus. If you know your bangus, you know what I'm talking about.

Sad to say this is only offered only this Lenten season. But instead of sulking, I'm going to make the most out of it or should I say eat the most out of it.

For my fellow bangus fans here are some recipes you want to try out using Century's Premium Boneless Bangus Marinated available at your local supermarkets. I had the privilege to try out the recipes. Each dish was a winner!

Century Bangus Salad with Caramelized Pear and Walnuts

Ingredients:

1/4 cup cooking oil
1-450 grams Century Premium Boneless Bangus Marinated

Caramelized Pears:
2 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 cup canned pear, sliced

Honey Lemon Vinaigrette:
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey
salt & pepper to taste
1 cup extra virgin olive oil

6 cups mixed greens
1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts
1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
3 tablespoons reduced balsamic vinegar

*To reduce balsamic vinegar: Pour 2 cups balsamic vinegar into a skillet or saucepan. Allow it to simmer with occasional stirring for about 5 minutes until a little syrupy or desired consistency is achieved. Remove from heat to allow it to thicken some more as it cools.

Procedure:

Heat cooking oil in a large pan and fry Century Bangus until golden. Spoon out bangus meat from the skin and set aside. Sprinkle sugar on pears. Pan-grill on a skillet brushed lightly with oil until caramelized. Set aside. Whisk together lemon juice, honey, salt, pepper & extra virgin olive oil. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

Toss together mixed greens, walnuts, and cherry tomatoes. Arrange on a plate topped with bangus flakes and caramelized pears. Drizzle with vinaigrette and reduced balsamic vinegar.

Makes 6 servings.

Century Bangus and Kani Burrito

Ingredients:

1/4 cup cooking oil
1-410 grams Century Premium Boneless Bangus Marinated
1 cup Japanese mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon wasabi (horseradish) paste
4 pieces kani (Japanese crab sticks), cut into strips
1 cup cucumber, seeds removed & sliced into thin strips
1 cup ripe mango, sliced into thin strips
1 cup torn lettuce
4 large regular sized tortilla wrap

Procedure:

Heat cooking oil in a large pan and fry Century Bangus until golden. Spoon out bangus meat from the skin and set aside.

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise and wasabi. Add bangus flakes & kani, mixing it well. Chill for 30 minutes.

Fill tortilla wrap with bangus mixture, lettuce, cucumber and mango. Roll then serve.

Makes 4 servings.

Century Bangus Farfalle a la Genovese

Ingredients:

1/4 cup cooking oil
1-450 grams Century Premium Boneless Bangus Marinated
200 grams farfalle (ribbon pasta)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 cup pesto sauce*
3 cups whole cream
salt & pepper to taste
grated parmesan cheese for garnish

*Make your own pesto sauce by blending together 3 cups sweet basil leaves, 4 garlic cloves, 1/4 cup walnuts, 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese and 1 1/2 cups olive oil in a food processor until smooth. Transfer to a clean airtight jar or container. This may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Procedure:

Heat cooking oil in a large pan and fry Century Bangus until golden. Spoon out bangus meat from the skin and set aside. Cook pasta as directed in the package. Set aside.

Heat olive oil in a pan and saute garlic until aromatic. Stir in pesto sauce & cream. Season with salt & pepper. Add pasta & bangus to the sauce & toss well. Remove from heat and top with parmesan cheese.

Makes 4 servings.

Win a Seat at Happy Even After

Labels:

Are you a single mom? Most people would just consider single moms as those who were never married. However in true context, single moms also include those who were once married, widowed, tita mommys who stand as guardians, and parents who have spouses working overseas or are seafarers. To take on such huge parental responsibility of taking care of yourself and your children can be overwhelming. Good thing SexAndSensibilities.com put up workshop called “Happy Even After” - a workshop series to help other single moms get back on their feet again or just cope with dynamics of solo parenting. The workshop is slated this Sunday, March 20, 2011, between 2PM to 5PM at Powerbooks Greenbelt 4. Registration fee of P200 covers refreshments, giveaways and a donation to the HERO Foundation.

Do you want to Win one of 10 seats of the workshop? Read on...

http://sexandsensibilities.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/HEA-revised.jpg

“Happy Even After” workshop has three components:
  • Inspiration: If I can do it, so can you
    • Testimonies from other single moms who have already successfully managed to get back on the saddle
  • Information: Let me show you how to do it
    • Practical information on finances, legal issues and work life balance that are specifically suited to the needs of single mothers
    • For the upcoming workshop on Sunday, March 20, Atty Raquel Aspiras will help participants navigate through the legal system by answering questions about annulments, child custody and support, paternity, among others.
  • Empowerment: Feeling good starts with looking good
    • Fashion and beauty tips on a single mom budget from beauty authorities.

“That’s basically the bare minimum you need as single mother not just to survive, but bounce back with resilience: someone who’s been there to look up to, an expert to give you practical information on the cumbersome things like finances and legalities and finally, a beauty coach to show you how to look good while you’re juggling the 1,001 million things that single moms juggle. Looking good is not be looked at as trivial and capricious—it is actually the first step to feeling good about yourself and taking control of your life again,” says Ana Santos, Founder and Editorial Director of SexAndSensibilities.com, the parent company that hosts the “Happy Even After” workshop for solo moms.

The beneficiary of the “Happy Even After” workshop is the HERO Foundation which stands for Help Educate and Rear Orphans of soldiers who were killed in action. Part of the workshop proceeds will go to the HERO Foundation, which is a partnership between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Ayala Foundation.

“Happy Even After” is supported by Myra-E, Nivea Sunblock, Del Monte Fruit Juice and Powerbooks, the official workshop venue.

BPI Petron Services Rewards

Labels:

Using your Petron-BPI MasterCard not only gives you 3% fuel rebate and 24-hour price protection but it also gives you car services with the latest BPI Petron Services Rewards promo. Cumulative spend of at least P2,000, P4,000, or P8,000 at BPI-affiliated Petron Service Stations allows you to redeem a Car Wash, Brake Fluid Replacement, or Wheel Alignment respectively. Make sure you check the mechanics carefully because you might miss the service that you are aiming for. Although the promo doesn't require you to keep the receipts anymore, you may want to double check if you can use it to claim the ongoing BPI Araneta Restos Treats

Promo Requirements:
  • Open exclusively to all existing Petron-BPI MasterCard cardholders of good credit standing
  • Cumulative transaction/s of at least P2,000, P4,000, or P8,000 at BPI-affiliated Petron Service Stations
Promo Mechanics:
  1. Use your Petron-BPI MasterCard at BPI-affiliated Petron Service Stations and your transactions are automatically stored in the card's chip. No need to keep your charge slips

  3. Present your BPI Express Credit Card at BPI-affiliated Petron Service Stations to redeem the service
    • NOTE: You can avail this promo even if you have Citibank or any charge slip as long as you use BPI Express Credit Card or Teler

Promo Period: February 8 - April 30, 2011 (Redemption is until June 30, 2011)

Promo Prize:
  • Cumulative transaction/s worth P2,000 or more
    • Car wash - body wash with car shampoo, vacuum, tire black

** Eligibility for Real Thrills is limited to private light vehicles only (sedans, SUVs, AUVs and vans)

Upside:
  • No need to keep receipts. Credits or transaction amount is automatically stored in the card's chip
  • I'm not sure if I understood this completely but the mechanics says "A cardholder can redeem all three (3) rewards if his minimum single-receipt purchase on a single visit is at least P8,000, which is the highest tier." Getting all 3 rewards is cool but does this mean you get all 3 rewards only if you make a single transaction worth P8,000? Who would spend P8,000 in one station?
  • You can claim it until June 30, 2011
Downside:
  • I'm not sure if I understood this completely but the mechanics says "When cardholder reaches the highest Spend/Tier 3 of PhP 8,000, accumulation of spend is reset and the next Spend/Tier that cardholder will be eligible for is Spend/Tier 1." My interpretation is that once your accumulated spend reaches P8,000, your next transaction will only get you the Car wash. This means you have to inquire regularly if you are aiming for the Wheel Alignment.
  • Limited to BPI-affiliated Petron Service Stations only
