The Philippine Art Awards (PAA) visual arts competition has officially started. The PAA is one of the biggest art competitions that offers huge cash prizes for outstanding artworks. This is the first time the competition will accept multi-dimensional artworks besides paintings as it had expanded the entry categories in its last regional competition in 2009. PAA will award 40 winners from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila (10 winners each) all of whom will receive P40,000. Next year, 2012, all 40 regional winners will vie for the Grand Prize and seven Jurors Choice amounting to CASH prizes more than 1 Million Pesos and and All-expenses paid trip to an Asian country

Contest Requirements:
  • Open to all Filipino citizens who are 18 years old and above as of the date of submission of their entry
  • Professional and non-professional artists are eligible
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Theme: Open theme
  2. Entry Guidelines
    • Multi-dimensional works and any artistic visual art medium such as
      • Oil
      • Watercolor
      • Acrylic
      • Pastel
      • Pen & Ink
      • Sculpture
      • Mixed media
      • Photography
      • Fine Print
      • Digital
    • Entry must be recent (not more than two years from date of submission)
    • Works which have been exhibited before are eligible. However, works which have been previously entered in any competition (international, national or regional), including previous Philippine Art Awards are not acceptable.
    • Must not exceed the following measurements
      • Option 1: Not exceeding 2 meters (200 cm) by 2 meters (200 cm) in height and width and reasonable depth not exceeding12.5 cm and NOT MORE than 30 kilos inclusive of frame.
      • Option 2: Not exceeding .6 meters (60cm) by .6meters by (60 cm) by .6 (60cm) and NOT MORE than 30 kilos inclusive of pedestal
    • Works must not require any assembly
  3. Each entry must be accompanied by the following:
    • Accomplished and Signed Official Entry Form
    • Notarized Affidavit / Waiver certifying originality of entry and subscription to the competition Rules and Regulations
    • One-half page typewritten artist’s statement including description of the artwork as well as an abstract of the process involved in creating the artwork in Tagalog or English
    • One (1) 5x7 (5R) colored photo of the work
    • One (1) 2x2 colored photo of yourself
    • Proof of your age and citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport, or any valid government ID showing birthdate and citizenship)
    • Proof of your residence in the CRA (recent Community Tax Certificate not more than 6 months old)
    • Retrieval Pass
    • Official Entry Sticker (will be provided by the RCC personnel when entry is submitted). The entry sticker must be filled out in full and attached to the back, top right-hand corner of the work. The information provided and the work submitted must correspond with that indicated on the entry form.
  4. Entries should be submitted at designated Regional Collection Centers (RCC) in each of the four (4) CRAs on the set schedule
  5. Judging Criteria
    • Creative Use of Medium
    • Innovative Expression and Technique
    • Originality of Artistic Perception and Mode of Interpretation
  6. One entry per participant only
