PMPI-PECOJON Photo Contest

The Philippine-Misereor Partnership, Incorporated (PMPI), in partnership with The Peace and Conflict Journalism Network Philippines (PECOJON) is currently holding a Photo Contest that aims to present the harmful effects of mining in the environment and the community. Their are calling on professional photographers, amateurs and communities to enter the competition to help promote awareness on the ill-effects of mineral resources’ exploitation. The best photographs will be awarded CASH prizes. Over P100,000 in CASH prizes are at stake.

Contest Requirements:
  • Open to both professional and amateur photographers
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Theme: Illustrate the effects of mining on your respective areas
  2. Categories
    • Professional – who earn using photography or photojournalism
    • Amateur – hobbyist or have studied advanced photography
    • Community photographers – are those involved in PMPI’s sites of struggles
  3. Photo Guidelines
    • Taken within two (2) year from the contest deadline
    • Digital format at least 300 dpi and the size of 10 inches on the longer side
    • Entries from 135mm film cameras should be digitized first
    • Entries from digital cameras should be a minimum of 4-megapixel
    • Enhancement limited to dodging, color level and contrast adjustments
    • Photos must have not won any awards or contests
  4. Judging Criteria
    • 50% Relevance of the topic
    • 25% Technical expertise
    • 25% Creativity
  5. Filenames of entries should be renamed to [category]_[initials]_[yearphototaken]_[seriesnumber001-010]
    • Example: Professional_LRM_2011_010
  6. Captions may be included in the File Info provision on Adobe Photoshop or may be included in the body text of the email when submitting the photographs.
  7. Send photo entries to PMPI.PECOJON.contest@gmail.com with the accomplished entry form
  8. Maximum of 10 entries per person is allowed

  • Professional category
    • 1st Prize - P22,000
    • 2nd Prize - P17,000
    • 3rd Prize - P11,000
  • Amateur category
    • 1st Prize - P15,000
    • 2nd Prize - P12,000
    • 3rd Prize - P9,000
  • Community category
    • 1st Prize - P11,000 + digital camera
    • 2nd Prize - P8,000 + digital camera
    • 3rd Prize - P6,000 + digital camera

Upside:
  • No entry fee
  • Multiple entries allowed
  • "Photographer retains the copyrights for the photos but allows PMPI to reprint for a photo exhibit or a publication on any medium"
