Calling all filmmakers. Get your creative juices running and start submitting your entries for the 2016 Cinemalaya Short Film Category Competition. Produce a 20-minute film in Filipino or any Philippine language as appropriate, with English subtitles. Make six (6) DVD copies of your final work and submit it along with the other required documents at the CCP Media Arts Division. Don't forget to include your duly accomplished entry form which can be downloaded online. You may submit a maximum of three (3) entries, but only one (1) movie per proponent may be considered as a finalist. From all the submissions received, ten (10) best films will be shortlisted and will be screened during the 2016 Cinemalaya Festival. The Best Short Featured film will take home P150,000 cash and Balanghai trophy. Showcase your creativity and use this as an opportunity to get recognized in the film industry.

Contest Mechanics:
  1. Log on to culturalcenter.gov.ph and download the entry form
  2. Entry Guidelines
    • Entries must have been produced within the period of March 7, 2015 to February 26, 2016
    • Six (6) copies of the final work in DVD format, labeled with the title, production company address and contact numbers, production date, director's name and running time
    • Synopsis in English
    • Dialogue should be primarily in Filipino or any Philippine language as appropriate, with English subtitles
    • A brief résumé/biodata and two (2) recent 2x2 photos
    • Short film entries that have been featured in other local and international festivals and competitions are qualified for the competition
    • Should not exceed 20 minutes, inclusive of credit titles
    • Music used in any entry must be original, licensed or in the public domain
    • All entries, along with the completely filled out entry form must be submitted in a long brown envelope properly labeled with proponent's name, title and contact details
  3. Submission Guidelines: For screening and archival purposes
    • 6 DVDs with English subtitles
    • HD file (MP4 with bit rate not more than 15mbps) of film with English subtitles and a 30-seconder trailer
    • Data file copy of film on DVD
    • DCP and HD File (Apple Pro res HQ) of film with video frame rate of 24fps
  4. Submit your entries to
    • Media Arts Division
      Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
      Roxas Blvd., Pasay City
  5. You may submit a maximum of three (3) entries, but only one (1) entry per proponent may be considered as a finalist
  6. Entries selected as finalists cannot be withdrawn from the competition
  7. You must assign a single representative to act on behalf of your team. All official communications shall be addressed to the representative
  8. The decision of the Board of Judges is final

  • May 6, 2016 -Announcement of the ten (10) best short features
  • May 17, 2016 - Submission of requirements by the selected ten (10) finalists
  • August 5-14, 2016 - 2016 Cinemalaya Festival. Screening of ten (10) short feature films
  • August 14, 2016 - Cinemalaya Awards Night
Contest Prize:
  • Best Short Featured will receive:
    • P150,000 CASH
    • Balanghai trophy
