Search For Eco-Friendly School

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), and Smart Communications, Inc. is in continuous pursuit for participants in this year's National Search For Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools. As briefly described, these institutions are environment-friendly schools that have initiated and integrated in their instruction, research, extension and/or administration, programs which are environment-related in nature. Get your school to participate in any of the three (3) categories: Elementary, High School or College. Present evidence/s of your school's eco-friendly programs and activities through photos, videos, certificates, or other supporting documents. Get through to the National level for your school to win P50,000, P40,000 or P30,000 respectively in each category. Plus, there will be special awards to be rewarded such as The Nestle Water Leadership Award & The Meralco Energy Leadership Award which amounts to P20,000 each per category.

Contest Requirements:

  • Open to both the public and private schools nationwide
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Three (3) Categories
    • Elementary
    • High School
    • College/Tertiary
  2. Log on to National Search For Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools website, fill out the online registration form and download the contest entry form
  3. Entry Guidelines
    • Show evidence of your school's eco-friendly programs and activities
    • Special Categories
      • The Nestle Water Leadership  - Recognize and promote solutions, practices and initiatives of schools in water management
      • The Meralco Energy Leadership  - Recognize schools that promote practices and initiatives in electrical safety, energy efficiency and conservation
    • Brief description of the environmental projects or programs of the school (not to exceed 200 words)
  4. Submission Guidelines
    • Submit the following documents in three (3) sets
      • Official Contest Entry Form
      • Supporting Documents (Consists of all the supporting material that show evidence of the school's environment efforts and programs. It can include the following:
        • Memoranda, circulars, special orders
        • Photos of environmental programs of the school
        • Videos of school's environment activities (limit to 5 minutes)
        • Publications and design work
        • Copies of certificates, merit awards for environment programs
      • Digital Entry - Save digital copies of the Official Contest Entry Form and the Supporting Documents on a CD-ROM. Label properly
      • Note: Be selective with the supporting documents. Pick work samples that best represent the school entry, rather than sending every item
  5. Enclosed your school entry and supporting documents in a folder, label it with "Sustainable and Eco-friendly Initiatives of (NAME OF SCHOOL)" and submit it to:
    • Elementary & High School Categories - Respective DepEd Division Offices
    • College/Tertiary Category - Nearest EMB Regional Office
  6. Judging Criteria
    • 30% Environment-friendly School Operations and Presence of Environmental Programs
    • 30% Environment-related Features of the School Curriculum
    • 20% Environment-related Aspects of the School’s Policy
    • 10% Presence of Vibrant Eco Organizations in Campus
    • 10% Presence of Partners and Linkages in Environment Programs/Projects
  7. Your school can submit only one (1) entry if you have more than one level of education
  8. Only those registered online shall be considered as official entries
  9. Entries will be screened by a core group consisting of representatives from EMB, DepEd, CHED, SMART and/or other partners at the regional level
  10. Shortlisted Regional level winners will move on to the National level
