Blogging Changed my World

Thursday, February 25, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

When I started Boy-Kuripot, I didn't know how people would respond to it. In the first months of this blog, I was the only one reading my blog. But after a few more months, people started leaving comments on some of my post saying how awesome this blog is. It felt really good to be complimented on doing something that I put a lot of effort in.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgooSC6bXbYhOYQ1VMIhpqAKC2nRjwRz3_yd7Xwnbgo670e8GvUpPzmPaCKpvvIxJCbW9lfCZvUtzsLYX21qHfibHsVZsdbgSlenIThKfxP7_zl9TBAvtNbFhX-DKvN6m1Uoj-pYT3sRDI/s320/BOY+KURIPOT2.jpg

As I continued to blog about Freebies, Promos and Contest in and around the Philippines, readers started to win prizes. The first reader to really WIN BIG was Joy Bahia who won an all expense paid trip to L.A. for 2 just by sending a short email. She showed her appreciation towards me by personally giving me some "pasalubong" from US. Until now, I still couldn't believe that I am the one responsible for her prize.

[with-boy-kuripot.JPG]

Recently, I helped promote Michael Paul and Jennifer Caspe who had qualified for the Thailand Ultimate Explorer contest. They found out about the contest through this blog and thought of joining. They were lucky enough to be one of 4 partners chosen to go to Thailand and explore all its wonder. In order for them to take home the grand prize, they needed to come up with the most votes. I volunteered to help them however way I can. Even if we never met face-to-face, I made it a point to help them win. Ourawesomeplanet.com also joined the bandwagon on promoting Michael Paul and Jennifer Caspe. Unfortunately, the contest ended with them coming up a few votes short of getting the top prize. Still, it was a great experience for both of them to explore the beauty of Thailand.

Thanks Michael and Jen for the "pasalubong" from Thailand! Just got it this week.

I believe blogging can change the world. It changed my life and the lives of my readers. I love to continue what I am doing. I envision to make Boy-Kuripot better for my readers and for myself. Winning the FULL SCHOLARSHIP (worth P25,000) to Anton's Maven Secrets Class would make that a reality for me. Thanks to WhenInManila.com, OurAwesomePlanet.com and MavenSecrets.com for holding this contest. Good luck to everyone that joins!

From Paris with Love

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

What do you get when you mix an amateur and professional agents? You get a movie called From Paris with Love starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. To put it as plain as possible, this movie is AWESOME! If you thought Jackie Chan movies are the only movies that can mix of action and comedy together, think again. While watching this film, you won't know whether to be filled with awe or laughter.

There were a lot of fancy stunts all throughout the movie. Although I doubt John Travolta did all the stunts, it still looked believable.

John Travolta, in his usual character in other movies, looks cool and gregarious

Things you will love in this movie:
  • Unpredictable storyline (at least for me)
  • Intense action scenes
  • Lots of funny moments
  • It's John Travolta!
My verdict - From Paris with Love is a movie you will definitely enjoy watching! I highly recommend it

Catch it in cinemas starting tomorrow, February 24

Yoshinoya Blog Event & Promo

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

It was somewhat a tradition in our family to go study in Taiwan when we reached 3rd year High School. It was quite a memorable experience for me to try new things. One of which was the time I ate at a Japanese fast food restaurant called Yoshinoya. I had the Gyudon Beef bowl which I found extremely delicious. I clearly remember sprinkling some red chili powder on top which made it even more scrumptious. So last Wednesday, when I attended a blogger event at Yoshinoya SM Megamall branch, memories of that day came surfacing back.

Head over to brianong.blogspot.com to Win yourself P500 Yoshinoya GC

If it wasn't for that Taiwan Tour, I probably wouldn't have met Mel

Shiitake Shu Mai and the Kani Shu Mai - P50

Japanese Fried Chicken - P80

We enjoyed the chicken very much. Crunchy skin, flavorful marinade, and it's my favorite part - wings! The only thing I didn't like about this dish was the dressing of the cabbage which tasted like mustard.

Mixed Tempura - P125

Comprised of crabsticks, vegetables, and prawns! A bit oily as you can see in the picture but still yummy nevertheless

Beef Mison0 - P11o

Reg. Beef Gyudon - P85

It's difficult for me to decide which bowl I prefer more.

Yoshinoya encourages food deliveries. For every P1,000 worth of delivery, you get a Gyudon Beef bowl absolutely FREE. Minimum of P300 for delivery.

There is also an ongoing promo in Yoshinoya that might be of interest to you. Every P200 worth of purchase at Youshinoya will entitle you to a raffle ticket to Win 2 tickets to the Owl City concert happening at the SMX Convention Center on March 14, 2010.

Promo Mechanics:
  1. Every P200 purchase worth of Yoshinoya products will qualify the customer to join the raffle
  2. Simply write your name, address and contact numbers at the back of their P200 receipts and drop them at the designated drop box inside Yoshinoya stores
  3. All entries will be drawn at Yoshinoya Megamall Branch.
Promo Period: February 16 - March 7, 2010

Promo Prize:

  • Ten (10) winners of tickets for two (2) to the Owl City concert event at the SMX Convention Center on March 14, 2010

Big Mama's Place Buffet

Saturday, February 20, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

Satisfy your hunger at Big Mama's Place. They are having an all-day Sunday buffet tomorrow, Feb 21, and next Sunday, Feb 28 for P222 per head. I have tried eating here a couple of times and I personally vouch that their food is good! Big Mama's Place is located at 155-B M. Paterno street (right of Quadrillon Mansion) in San Juan and is open from 11AM - 9PM. My best advice is to call them up to reserve seats since the place can only sit a handful of people. Win Drinks from Ya Kun Kaya

Thursday, February 18, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

It was a beautiful Saturday morning when a couple of bloggers, including myself, congregated to eat brunch at Ya Kun Kaya Ortigas branch. Inside the coffee shop, the aroma of tea, coffee, egg and toast invigorated our senses as well as our appetite. Looking at other people enjoying their beverages and toasts made us even more eager to try the food.

Read on and Win Drinks from Ya Kun Kaya

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs168.snc3/19541_10150090627180161_348622460160_11094994_5572566_n.jpg

The history of this restaurant is quite interesting. It started off as a simple coffee stall and made its way into one of Singapore's most popular coffee shops. It's just amazing how a small business could grow so big over time.

You should watch how they brew their coffee and tea. It looks so artful! They start by pouring hot water from one metal pitcher with a long nozzle into another identical metal pitcher that has a fine filter netting inside containing the coffee ground or tea leaves. The process is repeated several times to extract the coffee/tea flavor. This traditional way of brewing coffee is called tarik (pulling).

Finally, the food arrived

Yin Yang Coffee - P60

Available in both hot and cold, the Ying Yang Coffee is a combination of coffee and tea with condensed milk. Now that's a well balanced drink.

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs124.snc3/17141_416302275160_348622460160_10455050_943803_n.jpg
French Toast with Kaya - P60

All their bread are toasted just right. It's not too crunchy that it will scratch the roof of your mouth.

Most breads are accompanied by the sweet Kaya jam. It's a concoction of coconut milk, eggs and sugar. The sweetness of the jam is complimentary to the saltiness of the butter or cheese and the bread acts as the balance between the two flavors.

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs144.snc3/17141_416302270160_348622460160_10455049_3126436_n.jpg
Cheezy French Toast with Kaya - P75

For people who like their bread a bit soggy and moist, this is perfect for you. I found this extremely mouthwatering.

Milo Toast - P60

The Milo Toast is made with toasted bread covered in Milo powder and drizzled with condensed milk. Hot chocolate drink is also available if you are feeling a bit choco loco.

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs124.snc3/17141_416300370160_348622460160_10455043_50995_n.jpg
Butter Sugar Toast - P45 (1 slice) P75 (2 slice)

For those crave for sweets, the butter sugar toast will satisfy your urge. Sugar granules adds to the crunchyness of the toast.

Peanut Butter Toast - P45 (1 slice) P75 (2 slice)

2pcs. Soft-Boiled Egg - P40

The soft-bolied egg has the consistency of a taho. One slight pinch and out comes the colorful yolk. I added a drop too many of the original Singapore soy sauce on top of the egg which made it a bit salty for my taste.

Now here how to win...

Win Old Vine and Kuse GCs

Thursday, February 11, 2010 dfg 0 Comments

Still wondering where to dine this Valentine's day? Well, a few bloggers and myself were invited to a pre-Valentine dinner at Venize Piazza at McKinley Hill. We were served a smorgasbord of dishes from 2 restaurants - Old Vine and Kuse(pronounced as Kusinero). Old Vine offers Mediterranean inspired recipes while Kuse serves Filipino dishes. Since the two food establishments are right beside each other, we just remained at Old Vine and waited for the dishes to come to us. Scrumptious food accompanied by great friends made this night a memorable one.

Read on and Win yourself one of two P500 GCs from Old Vine and/or Kuse. Total of 4 winners

Old Vine interior

We started off with some appetizers...

Left to right: Tessie Tomas Salad* - P295(small) P595(regular)
Seared Tuna Tataki* - P220(small) P410(regular)
Paco Salad Sa Laguna** - P165

I liked both salads. You could tell that the vegetables were fresh by the colors and the texture once you bite into it. The Tessie Tomas Salad is an ocean of flavors of roasted prawns, marinated salmon, grilled shiitake mushroom, drizzled with a creamy balsamic dressing. The Seared Tuna Tataki is very flavorful. Even without the soy sauce, it can stand on its own.

Batangas Bulalo Soup** - P495
Garlic Dulong Rice** – P95

The Batangas Bulalo Soup was superb. The beef was very tender while the soup tasted that true beef flavor I love. They probably didn't use any MSG in this soup because I never got a wee bit thirsty after slurping down 2 bowls.

Fried Pla Pla w/ Burong Mustasa** – P295
Sinugba Pork Liempo** - P295
BBQ Beef Back Ribs Adobado** - P495

I was very curious about the Burong Mustasa of the Fried Pla Pla. It was the first time I tasted it. To be honest, I didn't like it. It tasted a bit like bagoong but minus the sweetness. I guess it is an acquired taste I could eventually get to appreciate. The BBQ Beef Ribs has an outstanding flavor. The meat falls off the bone just the way it should be. I haven't had Beef Ribs this good for quite some time.

Salmon Carpaccio* – P230(small) P420(regular)
Baked Cream Dory* - P350

The house-cured Salmon Carpaccio is a simple dish that is seasoned with a simple lemon raspberry viniagrette. The acidity of this dish brings out the best of flavor in salmon.

Chefs Quarter Steak* - P420(small) P574(regular)

Poele Lamb Spareribs* - P395

I'm a BIG fan of lamb. Grilled, skewered, stewed, you name it, I tried them all. That is until I took a bite out of Poele Lamb Spareribs. My verdict - insanely good! The sauce is currylicious and the meat is tender. I could tell that this was cooked properly. For those unlike me who don't like that Lamb aftertaste, go ahead and order this dish.

Off to desserts!

CQ Surprise*
Banana Lanka Crepe Samurai*
Sapin Sapin Creme Brulee** - P110

End your meal with a selection of exquisite desserts each with its own Filipino twist.

Chocolate Gooey Fudge* – P150

If you like thick sweet chewy chocolate getting stuck on the roof of your mouth and in between your teeth then make the Chocolate Gooey Fudge your dessert.
